Fertilizing & Repotting Laurus nobilis

Door: Laurus Nobilis 1 Comment

Fertilizer

  • In May and July you can add fertilizer.
  • We recommend a dried organic fertiliser to be put on the pot. As a rule you give 1 handfull per 10 liters potcontents.
  • You can also use a slow-working fertilizer like osmocote (3 months). This should be added in May.
  • No fertilizer should be added after August.

Repotting

verpotten You can repot your bay during the summer. The size of the bay, determines the moment of repotting.
verpotten1 Remove the old pot and soak the bay for about 5 minutes in  a bucket of water.
verpotten2 The new pot should be approximately 5 to 10 cm wider than the old one.
verpotten3 Remember to use a pot with sufficient holes. Drainage of excess water is important.
verpotten4 Adding a layer of 2cm of stones at the bottom of the pot, improves the drainage.
verpotten5 A ‘heavy’ soil; i.e. a mixture of potting soil, sand, clay and dried cow manure, is recommended. You do not have to add extra fertilizer, because the new potting soil should be rich enough.A recently repotted plant is more vulnerable than usual. Please give the plant some extra attention.
